RandomPicker is often used for public giveaways, livestreamed events, and contests where participant lists may include names, email addresses, or other personal information. While many organizers publish results later, some run their Quick Drawing live and import participant emails directly into the tool.
In these cases, personal data may appear on the screen during the livestream — especially in the Results table shown after the draw. To help organizers meet privacy obligations and avoid exposing sensitive information, RandomPicker introduces Privacy Mode for quick drawings.
Why Privacy Mode matters
During public draws, especially when the organizer’s screen is shared or streamed, participant data may become visible to:
- Contest viewers
- Event staff
- Random audience members during online streams
- Anyone watching recorded video afterward
This can raise privacy issues. Privacy Mode ensures that the Results page hides or masks personal data while still presenting the winners clearly and transparently.
What Privacy Mode changes
When Privacy Mode is active, two key adjustments are applied to the Results page:
1. Entry name masking
Participant names or emails are partially masked. Every second character is replaced with an asterisk. For example:
- John Smith → J*h* S*i*h
- emily.watson@example.com → e*i*.w*t*o*@e*a*p*e.c*m
This significantly reduces the risk of identifying a person while still showing enough structure to verify unique entries.
2. Hiding the Internal note column
The Internal note column is not shown in Privacy Mode because it may contain additional personal details such as:
- Participant phone numbers
- Customer IDs
- Address fragments
- Organizer notes about the participant
Hiding this field prevents accidental disclosure.
How to enable Privacy Mode
After completing a quick drawing, you will see the confirmation message “The drawing has been successfully completed.”
Below it, two buttons appear: Click here to see results > and See results in privacy mode.
To activate Privacy mode:
- Click See results in privacy mode.
- The Results page will load with masked names and without the Internal note column.
Switching back to the full view
If you need to view full names or internal notes (for administrative or export purposes), you can deactivated Privacy Mode.
At the bottom of the winners list, you’ll find Exit privacy mode. Selecting this button reloads the Results table in the standard full format.
When to use Privacy Mode
Using Privacy Mode helps keep participant identities safe while preserving transparency and fairness. It is recommended when:
- Running a draw during a livestream
- Sharing your screen while announcing winners
- Presenting results in webinars or public online events
- Broadcasting the drawing to customers or viewers
- Recording a draw for later publication
Public records and additional masking options
After the final drawing, a public record is automatically created and published in RandomPicker. If you want this public record to also display masked entries in the winner table, you can use the “Mask entries” feature found in the Share section. It applies the same style of masking to protect participant identities in the public view as well.
